Three weeks to go.

In three weeks I'll be back in the big smoke. It''ll be good to be back in London. I've not been home for a while. However this time I'll just be passing through on my way to Heathrow to head out to photograph the first Roller Derby World Cup.

I hadn't planned on covering the Roller Derby World Cup. I initially dismissed the idea. It's too far away. Too expensive. I forgot about it, but then an email arrived. Was I interested in covering it for Team England? I mulled it over for a while. 54 minutes to be exact. My mind was made up, I was going. I expressed my interest and expected to hear back soon, but nothing was forthcoming. Two weeks had passed and I was becoming restless. Still nothing. I had to take matters in to my own hands. I knew I couldn't miss the first Roller Derby World Cup. If I did I would just kick myself six months down the line. This was an opportunity to make my name on the international scene.

An email arrived in my inbox one Saturday morning. Was I interested in covering it for Blood and Thunder? I dashed an email off and expected a similar wait for a reply. Five hours later I heard a ping from my iPad. Checking my emails I found one from Ziv, the answer was Yes, yes, we'd love to have you out there. That's all I needed to know.

The weeks following this confirmation were devoted to procuring all the essentails to cover this trip properly. If something is worth doing, it's worth doing well.

New netbook, hard drive, memory cards, business cards. Cameras checked and calibrated. Spare pair of pants, socks and tootbrush aquired. With three weeks to go everything is in place. All I am waiting on is the go time to hopefully capture the best images I can.

I'm writing this blog to keep everyone updated with all the fun and exploits on covering this event. Interesting characters met on the journey and the drunken times in the casino.

I've been told to hit the roulette tables and put everything on red.
